Karim Benzema the talented striker for Real Madrid accused Didier Deschamps the manager of the French National Football (Soccer) team of bowing to racist pressure following the omission of Benzema on the squad that will play this summer at the UEFA European Championships.
Benzema last year was charged with conspiracy to blackmail amidst allegations of an incident that involved the sex tape that features his teammate on the France national team Mathieu Valbuena.
Those charges are what prompted the suspension of Benzema by the French Football Federation from its national team until a verdict in the case has been reached.
Eric Cantona a former forward with Les Bleus recently claimed that reasons why certain players are not chosen on the national squad such as Benzema along with Hatem Ben Arfa, is due to their origins in Africa.
Benzema, while being interviewed by a Spanish newspaper gave an opinion that was similar saying that Deschamps had bowed down to the racist pressure in France.
Benzema says he does not understand why he was overlooked because he gets along with Deschamps and with the Federation’s president Noel Le Graef.
The Real Madrid goal scorer is of Algerian descent. He also said he feels he has a great deal to offer his former teammates on the pitch and cannot understand the Federation’s decision to suspend him if he has not even had his day in court. He has not yet been found guilty and he believes he deserves to play.
Benzema has been accused of encouraging Valbuena to give blackmailers money in the sex tape plot so they would not publicize the tape. If he is found guilty in court, he could be sentenced to five years behind bars.
Benzema claims that only Valbuena knows what the truth is. He wanted to help Valbuena and nothing more but the whole thing ended up blowing up in his face. He clams Valbuena has not spoken the truth.
If members of the France squad were chosen entirely on just their talents, the striker from Real Madrid would be one of the key players in the France lineup.
Benzema has just completed his finest season of goal scoring in his career with 24 goals in La Liga play in Spain.
His omission from France’s national team leaves the club without any real elite center forward. Andre-Pierre Gignac and Olivier Giroud are capable but they lack dynamism that someone such as Benzema has.
His absence on the pitch for France will be sorely missed as they host Euro 2016 next week.
