Steven Mandanda Trying to Force Move to Marseille

FC Crystal Palace goalkeeper Steven Mandanda is apparently trying to force the club to send him back to Marseille by not training. The keeper claims he has been treated unfairly by the club.

Last summer, the 32-year old ended a long career with Marseille by moving to Selhurst Park. However after he suffered an injury Mandanda could not earn his place back with the first team and did not play with the first team since last November.

Reports are that Marseille is interested in reuniting with the French goalkeeper but Crystal Palace is not in agreement with an offer by the French club of just £1.5 million.

A British daily said both factors led to the veteran keeper deciding not to return for the club’s preseason training.

The club does not want controversy to take the headlines leading up to the start of the 2017-18 campaign or to upset its top sponsor Mansion Group, who is the owner of the biggest online casino

Reports have said that Palace wants £4 million to sell the keeper, and it is not known if the French side is prepared to double the initial offer they made.

During his career with Marseille, Mandanda had 441 appearances across all competitions.

He arrived at Crystal Palace with a huge reputation appearing in 23 caps for France prior to his move last summer to Selhurst Park.

But he struggled from the start allowing 17 goals in his nine appearances with the club in the English Premier League. His knee injury sidelined him and then-manager Sam Allardyce replaced the French keeper with Wayne Hennessey a Welshman who played the remainder of the campaign as the regular between the sticks.

Through all this controversy the club has signed Frank de Boer to be their new manager. De Boer inked a deal for three years and has been asked to change the club from being one that battles annually against regulation to one that is a solid side in the Premier League.

De Boer, the former Dutch international and player and manager with Dutch side Ajax, said he wants a team where the fans arrive excited to see their matches and a team that loves winning and wants to fight every minute they are on the pitch.

The last thing De Boer wants is a controversy with a veteran goalkeeper and is sure to resolve that as quickly as possible.

Crystal Palace fans have shown their displeasure with the French goalkeeper as they flooded Twitter with negative tweets about the player.
